Iowa students create saucer for commuters

Students at Iowa State University have created a "car" shaped like a flying saucer, one that glides about three feet off the ground, according to this new Des Moines Register article. The craft is solar powered, generates high voltages, and will be entered into an 11-day cross-country race on Sunday - the North American Solar Challenge.

Details about the solar car that Team PrISUm of Iowa State University is entering in the American Solar Challenge, which begins Sunday in Austin, Texas::

* The solar array contains 585 solar cells, each measuring 3 inches by 4 inches.
* The top speed without a passenger is 90 mph.
* The car's body is a lightweight carbon fiber with a core donated by Boeing
